{"id":11779,"date":"2025-09-26T14:21:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sescs.es\/?p=11779"},"modified":"2025-09-26T14:21:28","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:21:28","slug":"stars-health-kick-off-roadmap-sescs-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sescs.es\/en\/stars-health-kick-off-roadmap-sescs-participation\/","title":{"rendered":"STARS-Health sets out its roadmap to strengthen digital inclusion for older adults with the participation of SESCS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"256\">STARS-Health defines its roadmap to strengthen digital inclusion for older adults<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"529\">The <strong data-start=\"260\" data-end=\"284\">STARS-Health Project<\/strong>, part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/starseu.org\/\"><strong data-start=\"315\" data-end=\"327\">STARS EU<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0framework, has recently presented its roadmap to guide older adults in the use of digital health management services, thereby contributing more effectively to reducing health inequalities among the senior population.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"531\" data-end=\"1081\">Led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hanze.nl\/en\"><strong data-start=\"587\" data-end=\"627\">Hanze University of Applied Sciences<\/strong><\/a>, and with the participation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ull.es\/\"><strong data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"695\">Universidad de La Laguna (Spain)<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hv.se\/en\/\"><strong data-start=\"700\" data-end=\"728\">University West<\/strong><\/a><strong data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"679\">\u00a0(Sweden)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"730\">Silesian University in Opava (Czech Republic)<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ipb.pt\/pt\"><strong data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"784\">Polytechnic Institute of Bragan\u00e7a (Portugal)<\/strong><\/a> and the <strong data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"867\">Servicio de Evaluaci\u00f3n del Servicio Canario de la Salud (SESCS, Spain)<\/strong>, STARS-Health officially began with a workshop held in Groningen (the Netherlands). The event also included an online launch joined by patient organisations, healthcare professionals, educators, and researchers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1083\" data-end=\"1524\">At the opening, <strong data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1116\">Rima Dijkstra<\/strong>, coordinator of <a href=\"https:\/\/starseu.org\/\"><strong data-start=\"315\" data-end=\"327\">STARS EU<\/strong><\/a>, underlined the importance of collaboration in initiatives of this kind, which are essential for society. Similarly, <strong data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1282\">Prof. Hans Hobbelen<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ipb.pt\/pt\">Hanze University of Applied Sciences<\/a>) highlighted one of today\u2019s greatest challenges: the growing number of older adults compared to a progressively shrinking healthcare workforce, reinforcing the urgency of projects such as STARS-Health.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1526\" data-end=\"1886\">The session continued with presentations and updates on the project \u2014 developed within the framework of the <a href=\"https:\/\/starseu.org\/thematic-interest-groups\/\"><em data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1680\">Thematic Interest Group (TIG) Healthy Ageing<\/em><\/a> \u2014 where participants reaffirmed their strong commitment to the shared mission: <strong data-start=\"1760\" data-end=\"1883\">empowering older adults with lower health and digital literacy by improving their access to and use of digital services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1908\">Project phases<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1910\" data-end=\"2214\">The first phase of <strong data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"1945\">STARS-Health<\/strong> focuses on analysing the current situation of older adults, informal caregivers, and healthcare professionals facing difficulties with digital tools. The second phase involves conducting interviews in <strong data-start=\"2147\" data-end=\"2211\">Sweden, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Spain, and Portugal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2216\" data-end=\"2537\">The project will only select digital applications that meet strict usability criteria for older adults, co-create a digital environment in which users and professionals can jointly select the most suitable apps, and develop training programmes to support professionals in guiding both older adults and their caregivers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2539\" data-end=\"3078\">In addition to the professionals involved, students will play an active role by identifying and classifying apps in their own countries \u2014 a clear example of <strong data-start=\"2696\" data-end=\"2721\">co-creation in action<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"2723\" data-end=\"2739\">STARS-Health<\/strong> will also collaborate with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/label2enable\/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_detail_base%3BKJQ681GbSnS3djBmwVV5WA%3D%3D\"><strong data-start=\"2767\" data-end=\"2783\">Label2Enable<\/strong><\/a> and other European initiatives such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/careaboutit\/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_detail_base%3BKJQ681GbSnS3djBmwVV5WA%3D%3D\"><em data-start=\"2823\" data-end=\"2838\">Care about IT<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/healthnoord\/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_detail_base%3BKJQ681GbSnS3djBmwVV5WA%3D%3D\"><em data-start=\"2840\" data-end=\"2853\">HealthNoord<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/healthtech-in-society\/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_detail_base%3BKJQ681GbSnS3djBmwVV5WA%3D%3D\"><em data-start=\"2855\" data-end=\"2878\">HealthTech in Society<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/proeftuin-toegankelijke-digitale-zorg\/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_detail_base%3BKJQ681GbSnS3djBmwVV5WA%3D%3D\"><em data-start=\"2883\" data-end=\"2922\">Proeftuin Toegankelijke Digitale Zorg<\/em><\/a>, which work towards more accessible and inclusive digital healthcare. These synergies broaden the project\u2019s reach and reinforce its impact across Europe.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3080\" data-end=\"3099\">Research team<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3101\" data-end=\"3614\">The project\u2019s research team, comprising five of the nine partners of STARS EU together with the <strong data-start=\"3197\" data-end=\"3236\">Canary Islands Health Service (SCS)<\/strong>, is led by <strong data-start=\"3248\" data-end=\"3275\">Prof. Johannes Hobbelen<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3280\" data-end=\"3306\">Dr. Sandra Jorna-Lakke<\/strong> (Hanze University of Applied Sciences); <strong data-start=\"3347\" data-end=\"3369\">Margareta Karlsson<\/strong> (University West); <strong data-start=\"3389\" data-end=\"3408\">Rui Pedro Lopes<\/strong> (Polytechnic Institute of Bragan\u00e7a); <strong data-start=\"3446\" data-end=\"3467\">Sara Darias-Curvo<\/strong> (University of La Laguna); <strong data-start=\"3495\" data-end=\"3513\">Mark\u00e9ta Skaln\u00e1<\/strong> (Silesian University in Opava); and <strong data-start=\"3550\" data-end=\"3579\">Lilisbeth Perestelo-P\u00e9rez<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www3.gobiernodecanarias.org\/sanidad\/scs\/\">Canary Islands Health Service<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3616\" data-end=\"3912\"><strong data-start=\"3616\" data-end=\"3632\">STARS-Health<\/strong> will run for three years with funding of <strong data-start=\"3674\" data-end=\"3686\">\u20ac912,060<\/strong>, granted by the <strong data-start=\"3703\" data-end=\"3774\">European Partnership on Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS)<\/strong>. This is a co-funded action under the <strong data-start=\"3813\" data-end=\"3887\">Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Programme (2021\u20132027)<\/strong> of the European
