{"id":13560,"date":"2026-08-19T13:20:48","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T13:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sescs.es\/?p=13560"},"modified":"2026-08-19T13:20:48","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T13:20:48","slug":"sescs-publication-effectiveness-web-based-decision-aid-gad-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sescs.es\/en\/sescs-publication-effectiveness-web-based-decision-aid-gad-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"SESCS PUBLICATION: Effectiveness of a web-based decision aid for patients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder in Spain: a randomised controlled trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vanesa Ramos Garc\u00eda, Amado Rivero Santana, Wenceslao Pe\u00f1ate Castro, Yolanda \u00c1lvarez P\u00e9rez, Mar\u00eda del Mar Trujillo Mart\u00edn, Himar Gonz\u00e1lez Pacheco, Anthea Santos \u00c1lvarez, Andrea Duarte D\u00edaz, Mar\u00eda Isabel Del Cura Gonz\u00e1lez, Lilisbeth Perestelo P\u00e9rez<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"sec-1\" class=\"subsection\">\n<div id=\"sec-1\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-2\"><strong>Objective<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To evaluate the effectiveness of an online Patient Decision Aid (PtDA) for patients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-2\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-3\"><strong>Design<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Randomised controlled trial comparing the PtDA to general information (fact sheet).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-3\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-4\"><strong>Setting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The study took place in 17 primary care centres in the Canary Islands (Spain).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-4\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-5\"><strong>Participants<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Patients diagnosed with GAD and a score \u22658 in the GAD-7 questionnaire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-5\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-6\"><strong>Intervention<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Patients were randomly allocated to the PtDA group (n=58) or the control group (n=61).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-6\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-7\"><strong>Main outcome measure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary outcome was decisional conflict at postintervention, assessed with the Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS). Secondary outcomes include knowledge about GAD and its treatments, concordance between informed preference and 3\u2009month actual choice, decision quality and GAD symptoms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-7\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-8\"><strong>Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There were no significant differences in decisional conflict at postintervention or 3\u2009month follow-up in the intention-to-treat (ITT) or per-protocol sample (PPS). The PtDA significantly improved postintervention (MD=1.65, 95%\u2009CI: 0.84 to 2.46) and 3\u2009month objective knowledge (MD=0.78, 95%\u2009CI: 0.02 to 1.55). In the PPS, anxiety symptoms at 3 months were significantly lower in the PtDA group (MD=\u22123.00, 95%\u2009CI: \u22125.69 to \u20130.30), but in the ITT sample, this difference did not reach significance (p=0.06). There were no significant differences in the rate of patients unsure about treatment preference at postintervention, nor on concordance or decision quality at follow-up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-8\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p id=\"p-9\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The use of the PtDA led to improvements in knowledge at 3 months, but it did not result in a significant reduction of decisional conflict. These results must be interpreted with caution, given the methodological limitations of the study, mainly the high rate of dropouts. Further research is needed to confirm these results, the first published on the effectiveness of a PtDA for GAD patients.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sec-9\" class=\"subsection\">\n<p
