Project Summary

The subproject CONCEPT-SURBCAN is part of a coordinated project titled Effectiveness and efficiency of chronic care in the Spanish National Health System: a multi-cohort study with real-world data [CONCEPT study]. The objective of this subproject is to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare for long-term survivors of breast cancer and to identify unmet preferences and needs of patients and professionals to improve the care provided during breast cancer survivorship.

Real-world data (RWD) from a retrospective cohort of breast cancer survivors (n = 7,241 women; 5 million healthcare contacts) treated in hospitals and primary care centers across five regions of Spain (SURBCAN cohort) will be analyzed using mixed methods to describe care trajectories and adherence to recommendations, employing data mining and process techniques. Focus groups with patients and professionals will be conducted to explore unmet preferences and needs. Identifying discrepancies in adherence to follow-up recommendations for cancer survivors is crucial for pinpointing opportunities to improve both service delivery and patient outcomes.
