SESCS develops Health Technology Assessment (HTA) reports requested by various departments of the Canary Health Service (such as a Directorate General, Service, Unit, Hospital, or Management), in accordance with Royal Decree 123/2014 of December 18, which outlines the procedure for implementing health technologies in the clinical practice of the Canary Health Service:
SHORT REPORTS
Short reports are health technology assessment reports requested by a department of the Canary Islands Health Service (General Directorate, Service, Unit, Hospital, Management) and prepared within a period of two to three months.
- Effectiveness, safety, and cost of internal fixation screws in distal metatarsal osteotomy for the treatment of metatarsalgia.
- Report on the efficacy, effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of dermatoscopy for the diagnosis and clinical follow-up of pigmented skin lesions in primary healthcare.

During 2015, no requests for health technology assessment reports were received, and the activity focused on responding to specific questions posed by various departments of the Canary Islands Health Service.

Immediate response short reports are health technology assessment reports requested by a department of the Canary Islands Health Service (General Directorate, Service, Unit, Hospital, Management) and are prepared in less than a month. They are prepared in a short space of time and are called immediate response due to the need to make a prompt health policy decision and/or because there is no uncertainty about the scientific evidence.
- Rapid report on the efficacy, effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of using phenytoin to manage status epilepticus (2nd line) in primary health care.
- Report on the efficacy, effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of preoperative use of antiseptics to reduce the risk of surgical site infections.
