Description:
Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) developed within the framework of the Clinical Practice Guideline Program of the Spanish National Health System, coordinated by GuíaSalud. Its development was carried out by a multidisciplinary group of national experts, under the methodological coordination of SESCS, and funded by the Ministry of Health as part of the annual work plan of the Spanish Network of Health Technology Assessment Agencies (RedETS).
This edition updates the 2012 CPG on Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, addressing care for people of all ages with a diagnosis or suspected Type 1 Diabetes.
It provides systematically developed recommendations based on the best available evidence and centered on the patient, responding to 15 clinical questions covering care from diagnosis to more complex stages, including specific sections on:
Hospital Management and Special Situations: Recommendations for hospitalized patients, pregnancy planning and complications, and management of intercurrent illnesses.
Diabetes Education: Structured education is established as a mandatory intervention for safe self-management.
Care Transition: Guidelines are provided to ensure a safe transition from pediatric to adult care, guaranteeing continuity of the care process.
This CPG is primarily intended for healthcare professionals involved in the care of these patients, aiming to provide appropriate tools for the management and treatment of this condition, reduce variability in clinical practice, and facilitate coordination between Primary Care and Hospital Care.
Additionally, the CPG is accompanied by a patient version, designed to help people with Type 1 Diabetes, their families, or caregivers improve disease management and achieve a better quality of life.
