Background:
Person-Centered Care (PCC) is identified as a core element of both Family Medicine and Family Care as a whole. From a clinical perspective, it is important to identify to what extent Primary Care (PC) professionals are able to apply a clinical method, such as the Patient-Centered Clinical Method (PCCM), which is a fundamental requirement for making truly person-centered clinical decisions, not just disease-centered ones.
Objectives:
To design and validate an assessment tool aimed at Primary and Community Care (PCC) professionals with the goal of measuring the acquisition and performance of competence in Patient-Centered Clinical Method in the context of healthcare.
Method:
The project will be executed in 3 consecutive phases:
Phase 1: Literature review to identify theories and tests that will serve as the foundation for the development of the PCCM assessment tool.
Phase 2: Validation of the assessment tool for evaluating competence in PCCM.
Phase 3: Evaluation of the acceptability, feasibility, and usefulness of applying the assessment tool in the context of an educational program in specialized healthcare training for PCC.
Applicability:
The development of an assessment tool for competence in PCCM would allow the evaluation of the impact of applying PCCM on specific clinical outcomes, such as evaluating the effectiveness of different educational programs and specific training for acquiring this competence.
